The last kilometre of the road is very steep and requires a 4x4. If you're arriving in a regular car, park at the bottom and we'll come get you. If you arrive on foot, we'll pick you up and drop you back in Boquete (5 km away) at the end of your stay. If you'd like to go into Boquete during your stay, you can book a 4x4 taxi for $25 — or, whenever we're heading into town ourselves, you're welcome to ride along with us for free. By design, there's no Wi-Fi or TV inside the cabins — the silence is part of the experience. Wi-Fi is available in the common areas for anyone who needs to check in with the outside world.
We're entirely off-grid and generate our own solar power, so high-draw resistance appliances like hairdryers aren't permitted. There's no shortage of power otherwise — we just ask every guest to use only the lights they need, switch off what isn't in use, and remember to turn off the bathroom light when you leave.
Pleasant, thanks to the altitude — you escape the heavy, unbearable heat found lower down. Pack a fleece, a light rain jacket, and hiking boots if you plan on walking the trails.
The best window for birdwatching — and for Quetzal sightings especially — is between March 15 and May 15, when most birds are nesting and Quetzals are abundant in the area. Outside that window sightings are still possible, just less reliable. Rarer sightings like the jaguar are genuinely rare, even here — this is a working cloud forest, not a zoo.
Some sections are walkable without a guide if you're an experienced hiker comfortable navigating on your own. For hikes over 3 hours into the cloud forest, a guide is strongly recommended — the trails from the farm are faint and remote — though experienced hikers who want their independence are free to go without one. All hikers are asked to sign a liability waiver beforehand, and guests should have their own travel or personal insurance.
Just let us know if you have a special diet or any allergies when you book, and we'll plan meals around it.
Breakfast is included and generally hearty, served between 8 and 9am. Dinner can be reserved each evening — two appetizers, a main dish, and a dessert. We bake our own bread.
We're sorry, but we don't accept pets. We keep animals on the farm, and outside animals cause them a great deal of stress.
For safety reasons, children under 12 aren't accepted, and there are no extra beds available in the cabins.
Free cancellation up to 1 month before arrival. From 1 month to 15 days out, 50% is refundable; from 15 days to 1 week out, 25% is refundable. Inside 1 week of arrival, bookings are non-refundable.

For birdwatching, we recommend downloading (and updating) the Merlin Bird ID app before you arrive — it's a great help identifying what you're seeing. If you're into plants and flowers, a specialized plant-identification app is useful too for putting a name to what's growing around you.
